Vickery Meadow Healthy Holiday Partnership

Women in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood benefited from blood pressure screening and healthy eating tips from Garland Independent School District health clinic staff at a healthy holiday event hosted by the Community Council on December 17. R. N. Zela Daniel encouraged the moms to teach their families about portion control, comparing food labels for sodium, sugar, and fat content and other ways to eat more nutritiously. Garland Independent School District partners with the American Diabetes Association to bring these important messages to local communities.

The Community Council kicks off a new program in January partnering with the University of North Texas Health Science Center to engage women in Vickery Meadow to educate their community on healthy lifestyles and preventing obesity. For more information, contact Marilyn Self at, 214-954-4212.
