Find Heat Relief

More than 15 days of 100+-degree temperatures threaten health.  Dallas County health officials teamed up with Reliant Energy to help people make it through the summer. They've opened two cooling centers to give people a break from the scorching temperatures:

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2922 MLK Blvd.

West Dallas Multipurpose Center, 2828 Fish Trap Road.

The Salvation Army DFW operates “Cooling Stations" that provide a retreat from the Texas heat.  Citizens throughout the community are encouraged to stop by, cool off in an air-conditioned facility and enjoy a cold drink of water. For more information on cooling centers, contact 2-1-1.

Anyone who is worried that they can't afford to stay cool can also call 211 for help. Some may qualify for a free air conditioning or for help in paying utility bills.
