Fight Elder Abuse—Buy a Cookbook

The Dallas Adult Protective Services Community Board just released Cooking: It’s Everybody’s Business. Recipes collected from 188 friends, family and co-workers raise funds to help Dallas area vulnerable elderly and people with disabilities. Call Rachel Woodard, Community Board member, at 214-954-4215 to purchase cookbooks, $12per copy or two for $20.

The Dallas Adult Protective Service Community Board supports staff in maintaining four Silver Star Rooms at agency offices. The Silver Star Rooms provide caseworkers with 24/7 access to items for clients in emergency situations. The board raises money to provide supplemental funds.

Adult Protective Services has been a long time partner of the Dallas Area Agency on Aging in addressing elder abuse. The active partnership includes elder study collaborations, service on the Adult Protective Services Advisory Board, and their affiliation with the Advocacy Center for the Elderly.

Living alone or dependent on others for their care, many elders are vulnerable to abuse, neglect or exploitation. Predators lie in wait, and some have had their money or property stolen, usually by someone they know. Adult Protective Services investigates allegations. With confirmed maltreatment, the agency attempts to alleviate the problem through providing or arranging services.
