5-4-3-2-1 Go! teaches youth healthy habits for a healthy future

Through the generosity of a grant from the Aetna Foundation, the Community Youth Development program operates its 5-4-3-2-1- Go! program. The program works to combat obesity, through nutrition education and physical exercise. Youngsters, mostly in third through sixth grade, work to get to a healthy weight and Body Mass Index, and plan to stay healthy for life.

The program's message, licensed from The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC), teaches youth to get 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day; 4 glasses of water per day; 3 servings of low-fat dairy; 2 hours or less of screen time, which includes television, computers, and video games; and 1 hour or more of physical activity a day. Participants involved for six months or more show that they are making progress toward their goals. As a result of the work, we are now in competition for a national prize and recognition. Keep checking back. More details follow next week on how you can help the program win!
