History
The Dallas Commission on Children and Youth has a long track record in launching collaborations and information
efforts to positively impact Dallas youth. Here are few highlights:

Contracted with YMCA for Youth Services system (1975)
·
Worked with the City of Dallas on Summer Youth Recreation Program and with
the Juvenile Department on monitoring and evaluating its Dallas Independent
School District contract for delinquency prevention services (1976)
·
Co-sponsorship of the "Community Congress for Children" attended by 300
persons and publication of "Is it Well with the
Child?" The Congress was Dallas' first major event in observance of the
International Year of the Child (1979)
·
The Commission published "Adolescent Pregnancy in Dallas County, Texas,"
leading to efforts to address high teen pregnancy rates. (1984)
·
First year of operation of a nursery at Dallas Independent
School District's (DISD) Health Special School for
pregnant students, a cooperative program involving DCCY, Head Start Center
and the DISD (1985)
·
TEENLINE information and referral at Community council to meet the goal of
providing non-judgmental info to young people as part of MPACT 88,
community-wide teen pregnancy effort (1985)
·
Published a series of
"Safe Places Guides" for children and parents (1995 - 2000)
