Advisory Council
The Advisory Council offers information,
guidance, advice and support to DAAA staff on services for older adults in
Dallas County. The Council serves as a critical link between the agency and the
community. It ensures the intent and objectives of the Older American’s Act, the
enabling legislation for the agency, are met. The Chair of the Advisory Council
is a member of the Community Council of Greater Dallas Board of Directors and is
appointed by the Board President. Membership includes at least 15 individuals
representing services, minorities, local elected officials, health care
providers, nutrition service providers and the general public. Members are
appointed for three-year terms. Meetings are held five times a year on the
third Thursday in February, April, June, September and November. Click

A Matter of Balance – Master
Trainer and Lay Leader Coach
A Matter of Balance is an award winning
evidence-based program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the
activity levels of older adults. After being certified by a Master Trainer, the
volunteer coach/lay leader presents Matter of Balance classes. Master Trainers
and Coach/Lay Leaders may receive a stipend for each completed
class (eight sessions), if funds are available.

Chronic Disease and Diabetes
Self-Management – Master Trainer and Lay Leader/Coach
The Chronic Disease Self-Management and the Diabetes Self-Management Programs help persons experiencing a chronic condition (i.e. diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, pain, etc.) to better deal with their condition. After being certified by a Master Trainer, the volunteer coach/lay leader teaches participants how to self manage their health conditions(s) through six 2 ½ hour sessions. Master Trainers and Coach/Lay Leaders may receive a stipend for each completed class (four days for Master Trainers & six sessions for Coach/Lay Leaders), if funds are available.
