Community Transportation Network Project Overview
The
Community Transportation Network
is a collaboration of over 60 community organizations – public,
private, non-profit and faith-based – led by the Community Council of Greater
Dallas and Dallas Area Agency on Aging. Since June 2009, the network has been
working to remove barriers that keep people with disabilities and older adults
from getting where they need and want to go in the greater Dallas area.
The work of the Community Transportation Network is possible through a
partnership between the Community Council, Area Agency on Aging and North
Central Texas Council of Governments and as well as the active collaboration of
the transit industry and health and human services sector.
The coalition envisions a Community Transportation Network that acts like a
patchwork quilt covering the Greater Dallas Area. Today there are bare spots in
the fabric, areas where there are no transportation options. There are also
places where the fabric doesn’t quite come together because resources are
limited and coordination is needed. The goal is to fill gaps in service through
coordination by weaving together new and existing resources.
Objectives
1. Document transportation gaps
2. Leverage partnerships, financial resources, services and supports to fill gaps in service
3. Educate people with disabilities, older adults, caregivers, and human service professionals about available transportation options through mobility management and training
4. Support regional coordination priorities and build regional connections
