Vickery Youth Educate City Officials through Photos

As the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words.”   Fifteen youth from the Vickery Meadow neighborhood in North Dallas zip code 75231 used both pictures and words at City Hall on July 22 to share their neighborhood safety concerns.  Using their photo exhibit to showcase broken sidewalks, dangerous intersections, liquor stores and litter as a starting point, the youth launched a discussion with city officials and gained support for making changes to improve safety in their area.

The Injury Prevention Center of Greater Dallas - a partner in the Community Council’s Vickery Is Active project to increase walking in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood - secured a grant for this PHOTOVOICE project.  Safe Kids America and the Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation also contributed to its success.
