Senior—Donate to Silver Star Rooms
The Dallas Area Agency on Aging is a strong supporter of the Adult Protective Services (APS) Community Board and the Silver Star Rooms they provide in APS offices across Dallas County. You may be asking yourself, “Just what is a Silver Star Room?”
Silver Star Rooms provide emergency resources in store-like settings where APS caseworkers can obtain emergency supplies or fulfill special requests for clients, seniors and adults with disabilities who are in crisis situations due to suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation. The availability of these items 24/7 allows caseworkers round-the-clock access to meet critical sustenance needs, allowing them to focus on clients’ big-picture needs.
Community board members stock, organize and maintain the Silver Star Rooms. The board conducts food and goods drives throughout the year to collect needed items:
· Shelf-stable food (canned or other packaged, ready-to-eat meats, vegetables, fruits, milk, entrees, etc.)
· Toiletries (shampoo, soap, lotion)
· Household items (cleansers, trash bags, paper goods)
Specialty items (liquid
supplements like Ensure, and adult absorbent undergarments like Depends).
Each donated item reduces the cash required to supply the rooms with essential items. Interested in making a donation or organizing a food and goods drive in your area, please contact Rachel Woodard at firstname.lastname@example.org or 214-954-4215. The APS Community Advisory Board is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
