CHIP Outreach Ensures Children’s Health

CHIP
Outreach Ensures Children’s Health
Texas has the
highest number of uninsured children in the U.S.—more than one million children.
Over 200,000 of those uninsured children live in Dallas County, many who
qualify for CHIP or Children’s Medicaid. The Community Council’s bilingual
outreach specialists help parents, like Glenda; apply for benefits for their
eligible children. For more information, call 214-954-4213.
Here’s Glenda’s story: “I had an appointment at a public office, and a person
from the Community Council approached me and asked me if my children were
covered with Medicaid or CHIP. I said I didn't think they would qualify. She
said it wouldn't hurt to try, so I did.
After a few weeks I got Medicaid for my children. I was, and am so happy. I
appreciate this program so much. It means a lot to me that a person cares about
helping families. I always share my story with family and friends and give out
her number, knowing that she will help them as she helped me.
