Best Wishes Monita McGhee

Monita McGhee joined the staff of the Community Council of Greater Dallas as an Administrative Assistant for the Community Health Centers of Dallas Project in 1979. Very shortly thereafter, she accepted the position of Associate Planner for the Dallas Area Agency on Aging and her life was never the same. After serving as the Manager of Aging Services for 20 years, Monita gladly accepted the challenge of becoming the Director in 2005. She only planned to be with the agency for five years as her background was in Education and she wanted to be a teacher. Needless to say, that never happened and after almost 33 years of service she has accepted yet another challenge outside the agency. Her last day with the Community Council and the Dallas Area Agency on Aging will be February 15.
Monita enjoyed the pleasure of mentorship by the likes of Norman Moorehead, Claude Watson, and Minnie Williams all well known individuals in the field of aging. She played a great part in establishing long-lasting partnerships with various agencies, cities, and local organizations working with and serving seniors in Dallas County. These include the Dallas County Older Adult Services Program, Catholic Charities, and The Senior Source to name a few. Monita was instrumental in instituting the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and Supporting our Caregivers Programs. She was involved in many community planning activities and served on various committees. Her most recent involvements have been with the Older Women’s League, Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition, and Dallas County Public Health Advisory Council. In addition, Monita stayed on top of issues and concerns relating to older adults through her involvement with aging network affiliates at the local, state and national levels.
Monita stated she has enjoyed her years working in the field of aging and hopes the seniors in Dallas County continue to benefit from what the network has accomplished over the years. No doubt she will be missed by her colleagues and fellow employees of the Community Council of Greater Dallas. We wish her well and great success in her new endeavor.
