The DAAA annually prepares an area plan in keeping with the following goals of the Older Americans Act:

  • Secure maximum independence and dignity in a home environment for those capable of self-care with appropriate supportive services.

  • Remove individual and social barriers to economic and personal independence.

  • Remove isolation and loneliness by encouraging involvement in organized activities and intergenerational programs.

  • Increase quality of life and health through improved nutrition.

  • Provide a continuum of care for the frail and vulnerable elderly to prevent unnecessary or premature institutionalization.

The DAAA operates with the advice and assistance of an Advisory Council made up of consumers of services (persons 60+), service providers, health care providers, elected officials, and the general public.  The Chair of the Advisory Council is a member of the Community Council of Greater Dallas Board of Directors.  A total of 25 members serve two-year staggered terms.
