The Distinguished Human Services Professional Awards were presented at the Community Council of Greater Dallas Annual Meeting on November 6, 2009. Chosen from outstanding nominees, the winners demonstrate leadership, dedication to the people they serve and results.
And the winners are:
Executive Director Award: Tim James, President/CEO, Dallas Challenge, Inc.
He leads the staff and volunteers of Dallas Challenge by example and knowledge gained from a long career in youth services in Dallas County. Since taking over the reins of Dallas Challenge more than three years ago, James has demonstrated both creativity in understanding the needs of children and their families and results in his ability to expand and fund programs and services, including three-year funding for youth development, additional truancy intervention, gang prevention and financial literacy.
Agency Staff Award:
Dr. Matt Cox, Medical Director, REACH Program, Children’s Medical Center Dallas and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center,
Nominated by the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, Dr. Cox is a vital part of the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases in Dallas County through his participation in the Referral and Evaluation of At-Risk Children (REACH) program at Children’s Medical Center. He is always available to the multi-disciplinary team and partner agencies. He attends weekly case staffing at the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, testifies regularly in cases regarding children, often serves as an expert witness and trains medical students and supporting professionals working in the field of crimes against children.

The Community Council of Greater Dallas presented
the Family Place’s Latina Outreach Program with the 2008 Award for Excellence in
Human Service Programming.
