Distinguished Human Services Professional Award:
Taylor Ender Named 2012 Distinguished Human Services Professional
Hector Cardenas, chair of the Community Council of Greater Dallas Membership Committee, presents the award honoring outstanding work by a staff member of a member agency to Lynda Taylor Ender at the Annual Meeting on November 14.
As the director of the Advocacy Group for Elders at The Senior Source for 14 years, Lynda is the ultimate advocate for senior issues at the local, state and national level. Her efforts have created significant impacts on the lives of seniors, including funding for programming at recreation centers, dental care, senior transportation and geriatric caseworkers. At the state level, she has championed efforts for utility assistance for older adults, dedicated funding for guardianship programs and the Silver Alert, to name a few. Never one to miss an opportunity to gain support, Ender encouraged people attending the Annual Meeting to get involved directly in advocacy efforts.

Dallas Services Honored for Vision for
Congratulations, Dallas Services! The Community Council of Greater Dallas presented the 2011 Award for Excellence in Human Service Programming to the agency’s Vision for Children initiative.
Since the 1970s, Vision for Children has worked with area school districts, charter and private schools to help children from low-income families by providing vision services they cannot otherwise afford.
Through its Low Vision Clinic, and with the dedicated partnership of area Lions Clubs and the Lions Sight and Tissue Foundation, Vision for Children provides services to 3,000 children each year through optometric exams/glasses, low vision examinations and devices and a repair/replacement program. Thomas Turnage, Ph.D., executive director, accepted the award.
